So I'm looking up prices for coolant temperature sensors which we all know are water temperature sensors.
So the part in stock is twice the price as the Motorcraft part that is not in stock just thought I'd mention it, When you go shopping at some of these chain stores. be careful of what you looking for and what you're ordering!
Advance
Part # C6020427757MTR
Part # WT5058

I just got one of these from Napa two weeks ago. Called it an engine coolant temp sensor. It was only $12-13. changed the sender while I was at it and it was only $10 and the thermostat. So for the two sensors and a thermostat it was around $30. For best results have a picture of what you need, sometimes next to a tape measure, or if you can bring the part with you then that is best. Most parts interchange with other make and model vehicles so things get mixed up easily.

Sender? My trucks have 4.0s I know where the temp sensor is on the intake manifold just behind the thermostat.

There is a sender I don't know about? hmm.

Yes I've about had it with Advance Auto even though they the closest store to me but on the other side of the street is AutoZone brand new store every time I walk in there people look like their zombies and have no idea what they're doing much less how to even look on the screen of the computer. You would think when a new store opens up they would have their best and most talented managers at the helm, but what do I know

Yeah I try to go to O'Reilly's if I can. Napa delivers to our work so it is convenient for me sometimes. I've had the best help and prices and quality from O'Reilly's. I cant stand autozone and advanced auto. I remember trying to get a ball joint out and I loaned their press for this and I couldn't get it. I took the ball joint in and the press back to O'Reilly's and they guys behind the counter busted their ass and broke their own ball joint press just to get this out, AND didn't charge me anything. I watched these two guys use their biggest impact gun on this and ended up stripping the press. but they got it out. Plus they always have people who know what they are talking about. Not like other stores that only rely on what their screen says. Those screens aren't always right and they swear by them sometimes. They act like I am wrong when its my vehicle and I am working on it. lol. So long story short, go to O'Reilly's.

It's not a trick name. The proper term is coolant temp sensor, not water temp, since it isn't (or shouldn't be) water in the system, but coolant. Water is water, water plus ethylene glycol is coolant. You can drink water. I wouldn't drink coolant, it tastes really bad.

There is a temp sender as well, right next to the sensor, only one wire.

Some times the OE part is cheaper, sometimes the aftermarket part is cheaper. Talk to the guys in Roanoke VA about why that is. They won't tell the guys at the stores.

Air chisels are the shit! They can do all sorts of goodness lol. Every mechanic should have one.

If you can't go through it or around it, then go over it.
After my last experience with autozone I will not buy parts from them again. From now on it’s genuine motorcraft parts from Rock Auto

My biggest issue with dealing with online ordering is the fact if its the wrong part, or you need it warriented its a PITA

AutoZone has a bad habit of ordering one when you need 2, like rotors, banjo bolts, hoses, lol

Autozone has a bad habit of putting the wrong part in the box that has the correct part number.

I work for a parcel company, I see rock auto boxes all the time. I hardly ever (but it does happen) see a rock auto box with a return to sender label

In theory, theory and practice are the same. In practice, they are different.

I think I have only had one issue like that with Rock Auto. They were very easy to deal with. I've done a couple core charge returns with them also that went smoothly. RA isn't perfect. But they are my favorite.

I got hung up all week on troubleshooting the tail lights on my Ranger because Carquest couldn't find the right socket. I looked it up and gave them the Dorman # myself... nope none in their network.

Went somewhere else, gave them the number and they had it transfered in the next day.

$11.99 + freight on Amazon and I could have had it just as fast without the hassle. :annoyed:
