But sadly we will never know it.

30-06. Primer has be struck, something resembling a bullet is in the case. Very light, probably from leaching. Someone drilled a hole thru both sides of the case (necklace?)

I found it laying on a bare patch of ground about 2' from my house outside of a window. On the backside so it is really low traffic, found it while mowing the lawn last summer.

War trophy? Surplus that missfired and blew a chance at a trophy deer? Why drill holes in it? How did it end up laying on the ground outside the window of a farmhouse in Iowa? :icon_confused:

Pretty neat find anyway. :icon_thumby:

Used to make them like that years ago when I reloaded all my own ammo, usually with cases that could not be reused, holes drilled for key ring and struck primer so there was no doubt it would not fire, no gun powder.

I have a 30-30 one of those somewhere (it has a thing going into the primer hole though)

If it was a keyring you would think the ring would still be there. It has been there for a pretty long time, my great grandparents bought the place in '78. Great-Grandpa only had a .22 and a .410 and wasn't really into guns aside from pest control. The guy that they bought it from wasn't really into guns either, he bought the place in '73.

Here it is with a new 30-06 and a 5.56.

The hole at the base is typical for dummy rounds...
