i didn't read it all, i'm at work and can't..

have you checked the coolant temp sensors? mine did this and one of the pins in the temp sensor was pushed in and not making contact..

also an intake leak can cause this. yes, it can. buddy of mine has an 87 and we found his to do this exact thing, we found an intake leak and fixed it, problem solved.

there are many reasons it could be.

also, clean your TB.. it looks terrible. it could help.

Well I got a chance to mess around with it today. I took that adjuster plate out from between the IAC and intake. I would have cleaned the TB but the gasket looks pretty tired, and I want to make sure I have one before I ruin it, so that will be Monday. When I started it for the first time, the tach showed about 1000 rpm, and after about 10 seconds, it dropped to 500-600. The engine stayed running, but it sounded like it would die out at any moment. If I sat with my foot slightly on the gas, and held the idle at 800 (it's what the sticker says it should be) it ran perfect. See the zipties that hold the throttle linkage cover on? Well I got curious and found that the set screw had been backed all the way off, it wasn't touching the linkage at all. So, I tightened the screw about 3/4 turn, and now she idles fine. Went around town and the stall out thing didnt happen at all. I'll post pics of that adjuster when I get a chance. I intend to clean the TB on Monday and I'll post pics of that if its real bad too. Thanks for all your help guys!

Yea, I have one of those adjusters on my Mustang. I got it through Ford years ago when I had a similar idle issue. It took a lot of fine tuning to get it set, but knock on wood its been... 9 or so years and no more idle problems.

Well, I cleaned the TB today and I didn't think it was that bad, but a lot of gasoline colored liquid dripped out when I sprayed it with TB cleaner. I took a toothbrush to it and kept going until it ran clear, about half the can. Started and ran really bad till the cleaner was out of it and now it runs like a champ. More power/better acceleration, I'm definitely gonna do that every year. Thanks for the help guys, I'll try and get that picture up when I get a chance.
