My 84 Bronco 2 sputters at takeoff when cold or warm. I am running a 2.8 v6 with an r7448 2300 350cfm carb on top. no frills all extras have been removed(way I got it). Changed the air and fuel filter but still happens. Wondering if taking off the carb and cleaning it or rebuilding it will help or if its something else. Anyone else have this problem and find a fix?

I noticed it has a mechanical choke, is that hooked up? Also, where's the fuel filter at, did'nt see one. I don,t know about that carb. If it sat awhile could'nt hurt to run some carb cleaner thru it. Does it fire right up and then sputter or hard to start? My 84 has the conversion done on it too(no computer crap anymore) and it runs fine. But I have a different carb on it.

The fuel filter is a little lower on the line but its new. It doesn't have trouble starting, pump a couple times and hit the key and it starts. The choke is hooked up but never used. What carb setup are you running bronco2fan if I can ask? It only stutters when I hit the gas at takeoff or sometimes shifting into second otherwise runs fine.:icon_confused:

Would it hurt it to run a 600cfm on a stock 2.8 v6?

I say hook a vacuum gauge up to it ($20). They are your best friend when working with carbs. You can learn a lot from what readings you and seeing how the gauge needle acts. Not to mention, they make tuning a carb really easy.

Make sure the mounting bolts are tight (snug) around the base of the carburetor. Does the engine splutter at idle and when the engine is revved. 75% of misfires, spluttering etc is ignition related.

Sorry I did'nt get back on for a few days. I'm running a motorcraft 2150 I got from a member here. Runs really well with the duraspark conversion. And like the other guys said, check really well for vacuum leaks and make sure you have the right gasket on it. Good luck
