ok so I have a 98 ranger 3.0 4x4 with a 4r44e trans (I think) shortly after swapping motors my tc wont lock up when I get up to speed (55-60) some times it will lock right up but most of the time it will pop in and out till I get a over drive light flashing if I turn the key off then right back on it will lock right up I Am guessing that shutting the key off then back on resets the ecu letting it lock up but I'm no tranny specialist lol also I thank I might add that when I start it when its very cold the tc kinda wines .... my truck has 239,000 miles any Ideas??:icon_confused:

William it would be safe to say that you need a torque convertor. There is a clutch so to speak in the torque convertor that locks up via shaft from the transmission. Sounds like it is just plain wore out. Like you have been pulling a trailer without the O/D button turned off.
Where are you located? I have a 5 speed fresh rebuild but that is all I have. No flywheel or anything like that. And also 2wd or 4x4?

sorry haven't been on here in a while I Am located in patoka IL about 1 hour from St. louse its a 4x4 3.0 and the tc being worn out makes sense because the tc actually came from a donor truck that had a lot of miles on it and with the other tc I never had this problem.

the reason i had to swap tc's is when i tried to put the new motor in I didn't get the tc all the way in and got stuck on the splines . so I got the front pump tc and input shaft from the donor trans , also the other trans was from a 2wd but had the same numbers on it so I went ahead and used it

I guess I should have stated this before.
