Usually there is an option to turn them off somewhere. I'm not sure about Canadian cars though because their laws are different.

Removing the DRL module and retaining the Hi-Beam and Parking Brake indicator lights is fairly simple, a couple jumpers on the DRL module connector is all that is required.

Jumper 1: Pin 1 to Pin 8 - this will connect the headlights to the headlight indicator lamp.

Jumper 2: Pin 3 to Pin 6 - this will connect the parking brake switch to the parking brake indicator lamp.

Connector C170 pinout (looking into the end of the connector)

-(5)-(6)-(7)-(8)-
-(1)-(2)-(3)-(4)-

Pin descriptions:
(1) - Hi Beam Indicator Output
(2) - Ignition Input, hot in run
(3) - Brake Indicator, DRL disable output
(4) - Battery Power Input, always hot
(5) - N/C
(6) - Parking Brake On Input, to parking brake switch
(7) - Lo Beam Input
(8) - Pulsed voltage to Hi Beam output.

See the attached pdf's they show the circuit diagram and the connector pinout.

This should hold true for 93/94 vehicles, not sure about any other years.

Good Luck!
