Hi everyone! I have a few questions about the 4.0l swap im doing on my 1987 ranger 2.3l.first I work like to know how much of the instrument panel will still work after I install the 4.0l and its wiring into my 87.like temp gauge, speedo, fuel gauge?i know that 83-94 rangers used cables and a gear for the speedo but what I don't know is will my trans cable from my 5sp standard trans and gear bolt up to my 4.0l auto trans or vice versa?

Yes, gauges were all the same.

Fuel gauge was the same until 1988, in 1989 Ford changed them BUT(big but), that has nothing to do with engine/trans swap, as long as you still use the same sender/float in the gas tank gauge will work fine.

You will have the dual fuel pump setup on the 1987 which will work fine for the 4.0l

Yes, speedometer cable is the same but.............may not be long enough, but you can get extension if needed, or correct cable length
