ok guys i got a 86 ranger with a 302. its got a high volume oil pump, fram oil filter on a filter relocator kit. when its running it has oil flow but it clatters a little. im thinking that shitty fram filter is restricting the oil flow. what do you guys think?

Yeah i agree fram oil filters are shitty lol...you didnt say if your motor has been rebuild or not oil pump doesnt make oil psi but a good set of crankbearing will jack your oil psi up..also you could have some clogged push rods

I think that using a fram filter is just asking to need a new engine.

Well it would be simple enough to swap the oil filter for Ford FL-1A. If it's still clattering, then you'll know the filter wasn't the problem (and I doubt it is) If it's still noisy, add an extra quart to the crankcase and see if that stops it. If neither of these two help, you may have more serious issues.

Is oil getting to both heads or just one? Have seen this before and the cause was the cam bearing had not been put in correctly causing a lack of oil on one side.

If you used silicone excessivly on gasket surfaces you may have some clogging your pick up. Make sure your rocker arms are tight too.
