Hey Guys: On a 1987 Bronco 2, will the coolant switch cause the engine to die out and act doggy when the engine is heated up?? Past idle, when cold the pickup is Ok. It seems to work harder when the engine is at operating temp. I don't know how advanced the computer is in 1987. Any ideas?

probably talking about temp sensor. That could be it mine was doing it when it was cold and ran good when it was warm but works good now I changed it.

Ok, so im lost here. the temp sensor will actually make your engine run poorly?
i thought that was only for sending the temperature of the coolant to the temp gauge. :dunno:

from what i read it could be more a TFI module problem.

There are two temp sensors. the one with a single connector is the one for the gauge, the two connector one is connected to the computer.

Doubtful that it is the ECT (correct term for it.)

The computer only uses it for fuel mixture adjustments. Usually if it is bad, the engine will run very rich and you'll notice your gas mileage take a huge dive into the crapper.

I don't know exactly which direction to steer you in, I guess I'd start with the ignition system - TFI module, coil, etc.

It would well be a TFI.

I've seen a couple other conditions that could cause this, including bad O2 sensors, bad ETC (not usually though) and cracked heads.

Do a full tune up, plugs, wires, module, the works.
