Cool, that earlier M5OD (not a '97 if it was behind a 302 and the shifter is clear ahead so it isn't out of a 97+ truck) fit better than I had it pictured.
How did the 4wd boot work out?
208 is one of the more popular t-cases for a V8 swap, I have one in my stash for if I ever run into a M5OD.
There is no real good way to switch the shifter to the front yet. 97+ has the shifter farther back. The rumor was spread a few years ago you could just switch the top covers... but the older ones have steel shift forks and 97+ have aluminum shift forks which are thicker. It is unknown to me if you can swap in the 97+ shift collars or even all the guts to make the later cover work with the earlier trans.
The getcha on the 97+ trans is most 4.2 trucks are 2wd and most 5 speed 4wd trucks have a 4.6 so a 4x4 4.2 one isn't the easiest thing to come by. I haven't seen one in a JY since a month after I bought my house (and had no extra $$) almost 4 years ago.
Also of note is automatic and manual trucks got different floor pans (at least first gens did) so if your truck was originally an automatic the hole in your floor won't be as big as Elutheros's so you might have more cutting to do.
