Had this idea on my way home from work today. Theroy is to nightshade the plastic on the gauge cluster and make the dash lights come on with the ignition replace the bulbs with leds so it would shine through the night shade but when the ignition is off you would just see black any thoughts on this?

why? I could see an accident happening because someone would be squinting at their gauges trying to make out where they are pointing. Or, a speeding ticket! lol

Well id make the gauges white... somehow. With black faces so it wouldn't have to be all that dark in reality just like tinting windows with a black interior looks darker than the same tint on a lighter interior color. Really its for just a one off custom look

So now the question is is there a way to get just the dash lights to come on with the ignition
you'll have to find the dash illumination wire and make it hot w/ the ignition instead of w/ the headlight switch.. or you could just wire your marker lights to always come on w/ the ignition...hence making the dash lights come on also! :icon_rofl:

i think it'd look really awesome if its pulled off right.

Couldn't I wire it to the radio ignition power wire so just the dash lights would be on all the time??

I think It would be pretty awesome too :icon_bounceblue:

My credo
Fortune Favors the Brave
I thought about that a while ago.
its a pretty cool idea.
i would tint the plastic and get white or super white leds and some red needles.

theres a wire that always gets power with the ignition, u just need to play with a volt meter to find what wires u need to mess with.
or with this kind of gauge faces

to get something similar to this i guess

that would be awesome to see. I saw an episode of I believe horsepower that they installed in a comaro that was exactly what your talking about. Couldn't see the gauges unless the key was turned. good luck with yours.

I've been doing my research but I'm stuck again. Should I go with cool blue light color or should I go with a green bulb?? I still want the gauges to be green because I want it to look as factory as possible.
