new computer.... got questions looking for answers

ok i have a 86 b2 2.9 auto. and i got a computer out of a 88 b2 2.9 manual. i heard they run the motors and the tranny's would be fine. well mines not acting right. when its supposed to switch into over drive it just acts like wants to but doesnt. im thinking the computer has something to do with it.

can these computers be flashed or re-programmed.

p.s. i cant return the computer

The computer does control some parts of the trans, like over drive and torque converter lockup.

Sounds like you have a manual trans computer.

And no, EEC-IV computer cannot be reprogrammed at all, but even an EEC-V computer can't be changed from manual to auto, there are physical differences to them.

I think you could figure out the wires going to the tranny and isolate them, then use a switch [two] to control them.

lol that would be annoying having to switch it on and off all the time. lol ill keep looking for an automatic computer

I've got a computer from my junked 86 BII auto trans 4X4 and don't have a spare for my 88 BII manual 4X4. We should make a trade.

I've got computers from an 86 BII 4WD A4LD auto that I don't need and one from an 88 ranger 2WD A4LD that will work on my 88 BII 4WD manual 5spd. I would love to exchange either one for a computer from an 88 with manual 5spd. I'll try to check back here often for a response or email me at sjr53@gra.midco.net
