I have a 94 ranger 4.0 4x4. I was replacing the u-joint when the end folded. I found one from a local junk shop and that one started to fold then cracked at the top of the u-joint hole.

1. Is this common?
2 Where can I get one at? it seems I have exhausted all the junk yards around St Louis...at least on the Missouri side.

Another 94 4wd Ranger owner paying attention to this thread. I get the cracked ear, but I couldn't see anything amiss in your picture What folded over? Can you pound it back or file it off ? Maybe switch to a smaller FH :D

Are you squeezing the ears with a vice?
I use a socket ( little smaller than the cap ) and hammer to knock the u-joint in far enough to pull the cap off the other side.
Less chance of damage this way.
