I have been doing Mopar conversions for years and decided to try something different. I picked up a couple small trucks (97 Mazda B2300 2.3L, 94 Ford Ranger XL 3.0L) to do some work on. For starters I'll be ripping the ranger apart to do the 5.0L conversion. The ranger has the 3.0L with 5spd, 8.8 rear etc. Question I have is, will the stock transfer case bolt up with a T5 tranny from the 5.0L or will I have to get a new one? The t-case has the electrical bs touch button system. I wouldn't mind keeping it, but not a deal breaker for me. Any and all help is appreciated.

Pretty sure there was never a 4x4 version of the T-5 and while it would be cool I've never seen anything custom to mate a transfer case to them either. 4x4 is out of my expertise though, I'm sure someone will add some useful info.

There was an adapter but it has been out of production for at least 15 years I think

Good read here on what you want to do: http://www.therangerstation.com/tech_library/AAInstructions.shtml

You may be better off just getting the M5OD-R2 trans and transfer case from an 1997 or later F-150, one with the 4.2l V6(it has same bolt pattern as 5.0l, Windsor pattern)
1997 and up M5OD-R2 had shifter located in same place as the M5OD-R1 used in Rangers

Electric shift was more common but some F-150s did come with manual transfer cases

And I don't think the ranger t-case will bolt to the m5od-r2.

That's why I suggested getting both M5OD-R2 and transfer case from the F-150 :)
You are right, the BW1350 or 1354 will not fit M5OD-R2

Thanks guys. I really appreciate the help here. I may just buy an F150 and remove everything I need to convert this.

That and the shifter is all you will need from that truck. The V6 engine will be worthless for your swap as will everything that ties to it.

Unless you luck out and find the tk adapter for your stock T-Case on E-Bay or Clist (unlikely). I run a Dana 20 case out of a early Bronco (the 4li-N-2hi-4hi case)the small size, gearing options and adapters almost made the choice for me. The best part is I can bolt a Atlas II in place with no other mods (one of my next changes).

Burrowing Owl; not Unicorn

Rare, not mythical:

Factory Borg Warner T-5 with transfer case flange.

Bonus marks - What's it out of?

p.s. There are 2 choices; but the 5 bolt shifter cover is unique.

Well I'll be. You found the mythical 4x4 T-5 lol. I wouldn't even know what vehicle to guess where that came from.
