So my uncle bought my 95 ranger splash 2wd 5 speed with a 4.0 in it, from me, I couldn't get it inspected because the frame was bad. He also bought a 99 reg cab ranger frame and a 2001 ford exploder rear end for the posi trac.
He then found a 72 vw bug that needed an engine. If you see where I'm going with this it's definitely an interesting build. I'll post pic in a few waiting for my email to update so I can get them

He's going to run an electric fan with a top or front mounted radiator and might run the ranger cluster to solve fords weird wiring problems on a small budget. He doesn't want to spend a lot on this build.
It's a mess right now but he's just test fitting. The motor will be torn down re gasketed and cleaned and painted up before final install.

I'm looking for advice for him on bypassing the egr system and and eating more power out of the engine. Will 302 injectors fit this one I read somewhere that that's a power upgrade for these engines

The EGR valve isn't opened during WOT or high load situations. Disabling a properly working EGR system will result in absolutely NO gained peak power.


Both the 5.0 and 4.0 use 19lb injectors.

Ok. I thought the injectors were larger in the 5.0. I miss worded the egr thing. He wants to tale the egr off because it doesn't work, not to get more power. I
He does however want to know if there's any cheap tricks that can be don't to get a little more power.

Or a 2.3 Turbo...gives you a bit more room under the hood and about as much or more HP if done right...

I'd SWAT that bug (Sexy Wheels and Turbo). The rear end will work too...

ev1 injectors? ford has a bunch of weird pcm calibration and injectors actual test rates... the old school red injector usually eq out to 21-24 pounds in the batch fire models, we used them as 5.0 upgrades for years with decent success when doing workarounds to programming with the eec4.. no where under 20 anyway. getting 8 explorer injectors to ohm together could take all day to find at the junkyard or three junkyards though.


best thing you can do for an engine is to shitcan the egr. a custom tune chip with emissions elimination and aggressive timing curve for the off road buggy will go a good ways towards reliability and possible power increases you might notice. without opening the engine up to upgrade it, bigger injectors wont be needed. it will flow 230 hp-ish at 80 percent with 6 cyl pretty easy for typical reds.

theres some dubs on b2 chassis that turned out real nice.

I saw a bug that had a Buick V-6 turbo hanging out the back. And I mean hanging.

No engine cover. Too much motor to fit one. It was wicked cool.

Didn't mention. In nys anything this old is safety only inspection. This is going to be a street legal car. He's going to drive it for a year to work the bugs out then his daughter is going to get it as her first car. When this ones done he's doing a convertible v8 one for himself.

I'll get more pics when I go back up to his house. He doesn't have a camera so I just take pics when I go up there. Maybe once or twice a month. I'll post a burnout vid when it gets running. That's going to be doing a lot of them

I'm using my cell phone for a camera I broke my point and shoot. And he's not very computer savvy. Doesn't use one unless he has to. He just has a plain flip phone not sure if there's a cam on it or not. I could have my cousin send me pics every few days, I'll talk to her next time there at my house. Prob this weekend

Update.
He got it running. Sounds cool with open exhaust manifolds, broke the coil pack taking it out so it's skipping. But now for the custom driveshaft, and finishing the wiring up. Then it will at least move on it's own
