I order to change my B2 transmission I have been trying to remove the rear drive shaft by removing the bolts from the shaft to the rear axle flange. I can not get them out. One of the issues is that it has CV joints which have a steal cage and thus limit what wrench or socket I can use. Anothee issue is that when I use my air impact tool the shaft will flex limiting the impact force. Any suggestions?

You need to get it hot with a torch. They are probably loc-tite'd into place. Also, double up your wrench. Meaning put the tightest box end wrench you can get onto the head, then put another box end wrench over the open end of the wrench you just put on the bolt. This doubles the length of that small wrench and gives you way more torque.

I have been trying a propane torch. Do I need a hotter torch. There is a lot of steal around the bolts which is a large heat sink. What type of torch do you use?

oxy/acetaline with a small tip. get the bolt itself glowing red darn near all the way thru the flange.

Also, soak it all in PB blaster the night before. Its good stuff.

If u use oxy/ acetylene, be careful. It won't take long to get it hot and start melting. I prefer a propane torch because ur less likely to eff something up.

Box end wrench and 3lb sledge. Works every time.

Or, 12pt 12mm socket with a 3ft Breaker Bar. You will only be able to get at two at a time, then you'll need to turn the shaft to get the other two.

If you try MAP gas it will heat like oxy/acct.but not melt the steel. It's hotter than porpane. You can get it a home center stores. It's in a yellow bottle.
