I'm in my Fm146 to M5OD swap on my 1992 2.9L 4x4 ranger. I bought an M5OD from a scrapyard, fair price from a low mileage truck. Unfortunately when it arrived home the tailhousing was broken during transport.

My question is, can I swap my FM146 tailhousing to the M5OD without too much problem?

Thanks in advance

Chuck

I do not believe the two pieces are interchangeable.

Call the junk yard and tell them it was broken when you got it.

Thanks for the reply! I did and they'll retake it no problem, it was a nice find...junkyards are asking crazy prices for tranny with a lot of mileage. I'm still looking

I know what you mean. I need to rebuild mine and I wanted to go to the lower gear set when I did it. Yards wanted nutso prices and a core (why does a junk yard need a core on a used unit anyway?). I managed to get lucky and pick up a 2wd 2.3 trans for $50. I can steal the gears, throw in new bearings and synchros, put it all in my case, and go to town.

I might just to that, keep this tranny and buy another housing. They go for 50-60$ around here. I've just never swap a core in another housing. I've already put a lot of time in that transmission swap and I don't see the end of it. Today when I saw the broken tail housing I just wanted to part out the whole truck.
