So just had a NC state inspection on the danger ranger, and my check engine light will not illuminate. How can i fix this, and is taking the instument cluster out a pain in the butt. Also, i want to replace my 4wd selector. Im troubleshooting why my 4wd wont work and this is my first possible cause.

Well, you probably need to replace the bulb. The cluster isn't too bad, a few other trim pieces, a few screws, not bad.

I would not just replace the 4wd selector because 'Its the first suspect'. That method of diag almost always gets expensive quickly, and rarely fixes anything. I would attempt to perform real diagnosis. IME the module is the most common failure if you have no clicking noises when the switch is turned to 4-hi. If you do get clicking you probably need a shift motor.

The shift motor? Do you mean the electric motor on the transfercase?

I really want to make a sarcastic remark about the level of thought I feel you put in before asking that, but I am going to refrain.

Yes, the one on the transfer case.

Yeah, don't feel singled out...he even made fun of ME...~!

But, then again, I deserved it...but read his signature...the part about a piece of cake...lol

With so many posts...and so many people made fun of...or potential to do so...I'd say you have won the title of "Captain Pissemoff"...but I think you've actually helped way more than you've peed off so it all works out...:icon_thumby:

Well Mark, I know I can't get through most conversations, let alone life, without saying something to make someone angry or sad, so I try to be as helpful as I can to make up for it.

I've been in the Marines for six years I've got pretty thick skin. I'm just here to learn. That signature is as funny as it is true

Thanks for your service...I'm sure the Marines taught you well...

Just be glad nobody has hijacked your thread already as was the usual on TRS...and I think you received a decent answer to get you going on fixing the issue...the crowd has matured quite a bit from when I started...I kinda miss the old days...even though it was a bit harder on new people they always got the right information initially...then the fun started and the thread was closed...we kept the moderators very busy...lol
