This tweak is for a Windows XP machine. It will allow your PC to shutdown faster than the default settings.

Disclaimer: This is something that an experienced PC user should do. This tweak involves editing the Registry of the PC. The Ranger Station nor I take responsibility if you do not follow these steps and something in your machine is messed up.

Steps:
1. Click on Start
2. Click on Run
3. Type "regedit" in the Run box
4. Expand the "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE" area
5. Expand the "System" area
6. Expand the "CurrentControlSet" area
7. Click on the "Control" area
8. In the right side, double click on "WaitToKillServiceTimeout"
9. When the box opens up, change the value from the default of 20000 to 200.
10. Click "Ok" to close box
11. Restart your PC to check settings.

Enjoy.

If you experiencing the Windows operating system (including Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows 2003, Windows Vista and Windows Longhorn Server) shutdown slowly, and seems like always waiting for a long time before shutting down the computer. The behavior is due to Windows system waits for services to stop after notifying the service that the system is shutting down, when the user issues command to shut down, turn off or restart the computer. Other than that, Windows also wait for the timeout to kill open applications. You can make the Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows 2003 and Windows Vista shutdown faster by changing the following settings.
