I've got another thread started but not much traffic so figure I'll ask under a new title. I'm trying to get a Sundown SA 8 in a regular cab ranger and I found someone that will build a custom box to spec but is wanting to put the sub in the middle behind the arm rest. The mounting depth of the sub causes it to stick out enough that he is saying the seats will have to move forward 2 clicks from all the way back. My son is 6' and I'm not sure how comfortable this will be for him long term...I've read somewhere that you can cut the carpet and padding on the rear wall of the cab and get the box scooted back almost 1". Is there any truth to this? Anyone tried it?

Yep, Did it myself. Fit 2 flat 12s behind seats, and I'm 6'4". Maybe 1 click lost on mine, but I'm working on a new box to eliminate that.

How much room did you gain by removing the carpet? Was it a full 1"?

I too have a reg cab, and I've pondered this situation as well, I gave up on it & settled on some decent aftermarket 5x7's in all four locations, I know it's a personal opinion, but..

How important is a sub that large that one would be willing to sacrifice legroom & possibly the rear trim panel/speaker housings/jack location to accommodate one? ......not to mention the needed amp, where does one cleanly put that where it is out of sight?

please tell me that in that pic shown that this is not the finished product?, I did not see a sub there.......
