Trying to figure out what engine is used in the 1990 Ford Ranger.

You could have had a diesel, two models offered, back a few years more. One a slug, the other a snail, but a turbo snail. I exaggerate.
The inline 4 cylinder could also be a 2.0 as there is/was one offered in the middle 1980's as a 'fuel economy' thing. I think it was equipped with a carburetor rather than EFI.

No diesels offered after 88.

Mumble. I just got carried away thinking the question was what engines were available altogether. Never mind. The 2.0 was also limited in availability, not 1990 either as far as I know.
