Reg - I run the thickest most grungy oil i can get my hands on then add some Lucas Oil Stabilizer. (unfortunately my poor 'lil 3.0 is shelled due to a blending of radiator fluid/stop leak/engine oil).

Ashtray - With that aside: I agree with Reg. Pick an oil and use it. I think there was a thread with the various types/weights of oil our guys use. There was no general consensus. Use whatever is good for you. Engines are regulated to a near constant temperature once they are running. All you have to do is figure out what oil lets you start that engine when "COLD" and protect well when "HOT"

HE HE HA HA..... for me it is somewhere between crude oil and asphalt......

I had been working through a case of 10w-30, now I'm on 5w-30. Can't notice a difference, just wanted to switch to what was specified by Ford.

haha im kinda like evan, i've got a '92 3.0 and it really dosent care what I put in it, from 5-30 to straight sae 30wt to 15-40 and a quart of lucas, this motor really dosen't care as long as something is slick in there. but i usually run 10w30 unless im in a bind.

Use 5w-20 or 5w-30, whichever helps you sleep better at night.

+1

if it says 5-20 on the filler cap, use that. if it just says "engine oil" then use 5-30.

There is nothing unique about the vulcan that would require any different choice than any other common engine.

Having just picked up an '03 Edge w/3.litre today, (my new Ranger) it needed an oil change bad. The filler cap calls for 5w20 Syn blend. So that's what was used.
I use Mobil 1 5/30 on my cars...could I/should I switch to M1 in the future? - or stick with the 5/20.

i can guarantee you, without even seeing the motor, that the weight of the oil used had nothing to do with your engines failure. premature engine failures do happen.

Oil discussions are like politics, religion and sex discussions. But trust the manufacturer. My only choice is Motorcraft Synthetic blend motor oil. But llike I said... Politics, Religion, Sex an Motor Oil create a controversy everywhere they get spoken of.
