Group 59 is the standard, 58 is the usual alternate. After trimming down the lips on my tray and installing a universal aftermarket tray (my original was trashed anyway) I got a 65 in there.

I had an Optima Red Top in mine for over 10 years. Went bad on me last year. Back when I bought it, Optima's were made in the U.S. They are now made in Mejico and I've heard horror stories about them, so I refused to buy another. I have a Sears Platinum AGM in my Lightning, and wanted one for the Ranger. They don't make one in that size, so I just put a regular Sears Die Hard in it.

My credo
To each his own.
I have good luck with walmart batteries and they keep giving me new ones for free.

My Walmarts stopped doing replacements. They give you one replacement. Beyond that they refuse to replace or give you the remainder of the original battery's warranty. I had a long argument with a store, corporate, and the battery manufacturer when the replacement battery with the 3-year free replacement period died in a year and a half and Walmart said too bad. I'm done buying batteries there after that.

Diehards were good, I abused the one in my F-150 regularly and it took the beating, but we lost all our Sears stores now. Autozone batteries seem decent.

Good luck getting a 65 in a newer Ranger. I had a 65 in my '94 that I replaced a few weeks before finding the '99 on Craigslist. Was very frustrated not to be able to move it over to the '99. Didn't look like there was a chance in the world of cramming it in there.

3.0 Ranger batteries

Sorry for responding to this thread months later. I’m new to the board and need to supply my info. I’ve got a 95’ 3.0 ranger xlt supercab. I recently changed the battery. Found a motorcraft at oreilys that fits the full area of my battery try. It’s the 65 with 850 CCA and 1090 CA. Hope it Holds up well. The original motorcraft battery upon purchase at the dealer in 95 lasted 10 years I believe
