I know this has probably been asked quite a bit, but what have you guys done for custom center consoles in yalls gen 2 trucks? I want to build a custom console, but it is going to have to clear a shifter for when I swap in the 351w and 5 speed.

Normally I wouldn't do this however this site doesn't really have much in the way of what you are asking about. If try pirate since it caters more to custom work along the lines of what you are asking for. However be ready to receive flak for asking about a ranger. They aren't to kind to rangers over there.

My ideal set-up (which will never happen cause I got two kids and need the full 60/40 in my single cab) would be to cut the 60/40 down into buckets, get em recovered, and build a custom center console out of mdf to house a modest subwoofer/amp combo and some cup holders up front. cone of woofer would face the back of the cab (in its own chamber)with the amp housed to the pass side of the console. It would be tall enough to still be a useable albeit low armrest and id have the whole thing shot in line-x or rhino liner that color matched the interior.

Mine is an 88 so I know the dash is different but just for some ideas here is what I came up with.

I got a cup holder out of a 99 Ranger.

Drilled it and back lit it with LEDs

Then built a wood box to hold a 8" Sony sub and a Jeep storage tray and lid.

Then I used a foxbody floor seal with studs welded to it and a custom trim ring I had made with a foxbody boot and Bullit knob.

And this year I switched from a t5 to a c4 and I made my new shifter fit as well.
