im gonna have to replace the in tank fuel pump in my 87 ranger, it is losing prime and have to cycle engine several times to start.
I have a 90 model with the single high volume pump in tank and im gonna replace my 87 with the 90 fuel setup
I will have to use the lines also from the 90 model
I will be doing away with the frame mounted pump on the 87.

anyone ever done this and your + and - about it

In 1989 Ford changed(reversed) the fuel gauge sender(float) for the fuel gauge.
Empty-Full
73-10 Ohms pre-1989 Fords
16-158 Ohms most '89-up Fords

So dash board gauge will not work with '90 sender, if you can find a way to swap old sender to new pump assembly that would be best, swapping out the gauge might be harder.

Not sure if in-tank pumps are swappable between '87 and '90, i.e. tank shape and depth

Having looked at the in-tank pump for both styles, I always planned on just that. The pump itself looks like a pretty generic item and shouldn't be too hard to adapt to any sender.

I would spend more time troubleshooting your setup, my lose of prime was a bad regulator. My 2 cents is that the lift pump design is far better than sole in tank.

Assuming you swap low pressure for high, what are you going to do with the other high pressure pump? And that filter housing?

My credo
It is what it is
I got rid of the 2 pumps and 2 filters on my b2
