The motor starts turning over and starting when I put the positive cable on the battery post. I think it has somthing to do with the wiring but im not sure. Has anyone else had this problem? Any help would be great!

Frozen starter solenoid, bad ignition switch, I dunno. First thing I'd do is smack the solenoid a few times.

sounds like the starter solinoid stuck. I'd start there, then the ignition switch, as well.

I would also say starter solenoid. Try tapping it with a wrench.. Ford solenoids are notorious for going bad. Its like 14 bucks and 3 bolts to replace.

there should be 3 wires on the solinoid, 1 goes to battery, 1 to starter and one small one from the ignition switch. pull of the small one and try to hook up the battery again, if it starts spinning, its the solinoid, if not, you ignition switch is the next place to look.

sound like you might have the connections hooked up wrong,
make sure the wire to the power distibution block is hooked up to the batt side of solinoid
otherwise you might not have power to anything.

that stud is only hot when the ignition is in start. I dont know of anything else besided the starter motor that only needs power when in start, i could very easily be wrong though.

I ran a wire to that side so it would adjust my Duraspark iginiton during cranking, it is possible it is something to do with something like that :dunno:

Mine also has a wire from the neutral safety switch running to the post marked "I" in the picture. It is a neat little elbow connector that slides on. As I know from my experiance, without that thing plugged in I am dead in water.

But there are a lotta years between our trucks so take that for what it is worth. :icon_thumby:

If the relay clicks it is likely the starter or a connection. If it doesn't click you are not done sorting out issues related to the relay wiring.
