Hey everyone,
I picked up a 2003 Ranger Edge (3.0 RWD, gas) from my mother-in-law (should have been a warning right there, right?) for a stupid low price, so I was willing to accept any issues it had, as I am pretty handy with a wrench despite not having an extremely advanced knowledge of Fords. It has had its share of issues which I have been able to fix until recently.
Threw a check engine light, which only blinks when idling in Park (idles in drive at a long red light just fine). Took it to have the codes read since I have no reader at the moment and here's what I've found:
- B1881 - Unexpected accessory (the usual issue with the passenger air bag/code 47 when something is shoved under the seat)
- P0125 - Insufficient coolant temp (traced to a bad sender/sensor near the thermostat housing)
Here are the codes it returned that I am having trouble diagnosing:
- P0325 - Knock sensor circuit malfunction (cylinder 1)
- P1000 - OBDII monitor testing not complete
- P0316 - O2 sensor circuit low voltage (bank 1, sensor 2) - Whoever owned the truck originally must have put a different exhaust system on it because I cannot find a downstream O2 sensor port after the cat on the bank 1 side for the life of me
- P0301 - Misfire (cylinder 1) - Already has new pack/plugs/wires, so those aren't the issue; tested resistance of the injector in cylinder 1 and it reads same as the others, around 13
- P0316 - Misfire in first 1000 revolutions
The check engine light didn't come on until about a week ago. Where should I start with troubleshooting? As I stated, I put new coil pack/plugs/wires on it within the last 6 months, so I'm ruling that out as a possibility. I found remanufactured heads online complete with valves, springs, and the whole 9 yards for a decent price, so I'm willing to buy new heads if it turns out to be related to that. I'm just trying to rule out all possibilities before plopping down the money on them.
The O2 sensor issue is a mystery...there is no socket for it after the cat on the passenger side, and upon inspection, the sensor is literally hanging under the truck by its connector (whoever did that is a frickin' genius, right? *eyeroll*)
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!
