I have a 2001 Mazda B3000 4X4 with its factory AM-FM CD (Single) Player. Was performing several months maintenance with the battery disconnected. The radio worked fine prior.

After completion and connecting the battery, the radio is totally inop. like it is getting no power. Worked fine before so checked the three fuses, all are good. Have a digital Multi meter and check for power and getting voltage although the readings are variable - think it's due to meter sensitivity.

Have researched the web (for hours...) to find out if there is a Re-Set button, Anti Theft Code required, etc. and find only contradictory information. The Data Tag on the radio shows it's a 1L2F-18C815-JA. Does not specifically list a SN but has a Bar Code with *DL036240* listed underneath which I assume is the SN.

Have had the battery disconnected before although not for more than a few days and all was fine after connecting it. Read through the PATS section of the manual and there's no mention of Audio issues if power is removed. Guess it's possible the radio decided to fail during the down time but want to find out if there is a reset/unlock code or process required.

Thanks to all.

Radio should have LOCKED in display if it is indeed a security issue.

Some radios used a SRAM chip, has battery built-in, to hold startup info, when they get passed 10-15years old they simply can't last as long as they did when new, new the battery could last years with no power.
Startup would be to get VIN from computer and match it to VIN in radio memory, if it didn't match the LOCK would show up in the display, and then you would have to enter a code.

But no display at all would mean either no power or dead radio

So you may need to get replacement radio

Thanks for the Info

Hi Ron,

Thanks for the explanation. The web is a great source but also full of BS. Glad to hear a straight answer.

Will be purchasing a new unit.

Thanks again.
