So the tranny went out in my dads truck a couple weeks ago and he's just going to scrap it. the thing I'm wondering is if anyone sells swap mounts and headers? Everything else i an do and have done on other swaps but i would really just like to get the mounts and headers and any other necessary swap parts from someone. I also do understand that i will more than likely have hood clearance problems but that is not an issue.

also what would be a good trans to use? can i just slap a c4/6 behind the motor or will i have to run a modern trans? what drive shaft issues will i run into? trans tunnel issues?

the only reason i am even considering ths swap is because the motor and everything else is free otherwise i would probably build something else

any help is greatly appreciated, thank you

The 4.6 and 5.4 Mod motors just don't fit well into the engine bay on a Ranger. They've been done, but it's a ton of work. LOTS of custom work. You'll lose AC minimum. Maybe have to redo the heaterbox too. Mounts, headers all have to be custom, and you may have to do a custom steering shaft too. The wiring is far from easy. The driveshaft will depend on the trans you end up using. There may be adapter plates to run a C4 behind it, but it's way easier to just use a trans that came behind the engine originally.

I would use a 4R70W, it is a far superior trans to the C4/6 both in potential MPG and the power it can handle.

so what ya'll are sayin is that it would be better to just sell the motor and take the money and put it into a small block swap lol

The 5.4 is a good engine, it's actually a great engine. It's just a really tight fit in something the size and shape of a Ranger. The SBF fits better and can be made to make the same power. The early Tritons are good a spitting plugs out of the heads too.
