Alright yall. I fi ally got around to dropping my Explorer 5.0 in my 87 ranger but ran into some problems. Im using stock gt convertable mounts bc they wete $30 brand new and saw a couple people run them without issue. Ive got the mounts in these holes(pic #1).
After I mounted the trans I found that the whole engine and trans are rotated-as in the passenger side is a little higher than the driver side.

Most importantly the oil pan is currently sitting on the pass side I beam(pic#2&3) and I get less than an inch of clearance when i push the trans as high as it will go. Im hoping to kill two birds with one stone and put some spacers between the engine and the mount on the driver side to maybe level out the engine and give me some oil pan clearance.

Suggestions? I really dont want to have to pull the engine again as it was a huge PITA to get in there. Anybthoughts on mounting location? Is the motor too far forward?

That is why I don't recommend using those mounts.

I have the same, about a half an inch of washers between the mounts and the block and a heavy chunk of steel between the PS mount and the crossmember. Mine is 4wd so there are some difference there.

And I still had to get the drain plug out as far as I could, hacksaw it off and then get the rest of the plug out so I could change the oil the first time.

You MIGHT have to pull the engine and doctor up your firewall seam with a hammer to get more clearance, I have a bodylift.

Correct it is the explorer pan but it looked like a dual sump doesnt get me any more clearance front to back. Or is the dual sump "shorter"?

Difference between Mustang pan and Explorer pan. I can't remember anyone having luck with the Explorer pan.

I saw you post this pic a few years ago while I was looking into your suggestion of the fox pan. I've been basing all of my research off of the old conversion page that was last updated in 2010 that said I could use a rear sump. From what I found the Explorer pan will work but only with the 00 and newer rangers bc no I beam.

Looks like I'll have to get the dual sump conversion kit that Summit offers and make the swap. I just hope I won't have to push the motor back anymore....
I clearly should have posted here before I started the install day. It was a huge shitshow haha

theres several variations of the fox pans from the ltd/fairmont/bird.. some truck pans work....

some have dipstick... left.. right and bottom drains ect. oil pan at my local junkyard is 15 bux if i pull it with dipstick tube and proper robbed main bolt/nut...make sure you get the correct pickup tube and test fit it as well.

not sure what summit charges for the fox pan kit these days...may be worth it for piece of mind.. seems they were 90 bux or so...but its been over a decade since i bought any...and those were 351.

I used the flat plate mounts on the original v6 mounts and a 3" BL and clearance is good on my 4x4. I did make an adjustment on the driver side mount by drilling another hole for the mount stud and I took a big hammer to the trans tunnel seam. My trans sits on the original mount with slots cut in the mounting plate to adjust.
