My axle I have in my truck is the # 84, open 7.5, gear 3.45. My question is will a 2004 ranger axle # F6, l/s 7.5, gear 3.73 bolt right up with no problems.? I've read somewhere that the abs system is a diff setup, something like older models only had 1-2 wheel abs & the newer models have 4-wheel abs so it wouldn't work. Is this true or will everything work just fine.? What will I need to change/replace to ensure proper fitment & for it to work like it's supposed to.? I need as much info as I can get so I know whether to go through with it or if I need to find another one. Any advice or suggestions on doing this swap if it will work out just fine.? This will be my first axle swap I've done so I want to do it right. Thanks in advance.

The later axle will have a larger diameter pinion flange, so it might be an idea to grab the Driveshaft with it,,,

The anti-lock features can simply be ignored, though you may want to replace the rear wheel cylinders... buy these for your truck, not for the truck that supplied the axle.

LAst note, from 1989-on the lower shock mounting bolt is larger, so you will
need to either use the shocks from the axle donor, or buy new for am 89-up

OR replace the bushings and sleeves in the lower shock eye.

If you run the smaller bolts in the later lower bracket (which is welded to the axle)
you will damage the bracket.

Well the driveshaft is gone from the donor truck so I guess I can't get it then.? Mines is a 93 so the shocks should be fine right.? This much more than I had thought. Kind of confusing as well haha.

an '04 axle should have a single sensor on the top of the differential. there is also only 1 brake line to the rear axle, it splits and gives equal fluid to each wheel. when ABS is triggered both wheels get the same pulses.

a 4 wheel ABS will have a sensor wire to each wheel, and separate fluid lines to each wheel from the ABS controller.

the choice of wheel cylinder has to match the brakes, 9" and 10" brakes take different wheel cylinders.

If this is going in your 93 you shouldn't have any issues at all. IIRC the pinion flange change happened in 91, when the 8.8 was introduced.

Most of this advice here seems geared towards putting the 04 axle in an 80's vehicle, but the only one in your profile is a 93. I'm guessing you have axle code 84, and are not talking about a 1984 Ranger.

Please try to be clearer with stuff like that. Since the forum runs only by written communication clarity is extremely important.

Well I thought I was clear enough when like 4 works back from #84 I said my axle is a... But I'll make sure to clarify more. Yes mine is a 93 ranger. So after its all said & done all I should have to do is get the donor axle, take mine out & swap it in without problems.? & get new brake hardware for the donor.? Thanks for your help.
