I'll start off by saying that I have nearly no experience working on a vehicle, so if possible try to explain things out enough for me to Google it effectively if need be.

Here's the quickest was the pose the question:
How do I pull out the fuel line in a 97 Ford Ranger without removing the fuel pump? (The fuel pump is stuck.)

Here's the synopsis of what I've gotten to so far, in case anyone would like to suggest anything different.

My truck recently stopped starting without a jump. I had the battery tested, it was bad, but replacing it didn't fix the problem. The alternator was tested by disconnecting the battery while running - it worked fine. Now, the truck will start every once in awhile, but runs for a very small amount of time before shuddering and eventually quitting out. I was told that a good first step was replacing the fuel filter (which definitely needed replacing anyway), but the connection between the filter and the line is stuck, so I was told to disconnect the fuel line farther up to take it into a shop and have them remove the filter.

Here begin my current problems -
The spring lock connection also seems stuck, however once I get that off it appears that the fuel line connects to a metal hose midway which curves around some stuff, and in order to take it out I would need to pull the curved metal hose through a small, rectangular box keeping the fuel lines together and up - a box that it does not appear to fit through. Finally, the all three fuel lines have a metal piece keeping them all together which I cannot seem to get off.

Thank you for reading over this.

Disconnecting the battery while the vehicle is running is absolutely NOT the way to see if the alternator is working, especially on a vehicle that is controlled by a computer. It can cause all kind of electronic parts to be damaged.

That sounds like a lot of work to replace a fuel filter.

If you can get one side of it out of the line hold the other connector still with some pliers and work the filter back and forth until it turns freely, then try removing it again. Dirt will pack in there and act like cement.
