couple things, the newer freightliners are bragging almost 14mpg empty and 10 or better loaded.

Also, as far as how ratings way back when compare to now are way different, alot has changed in how they rate cars and trucks giving them more "realistic" ratings nowadays.

Another thing, alot of the lost fuel economy is due to emmissions BS, at least in the industrial truck market.

Prolly has something to do with the quality of fuel.
Fuel quality is better nowadays then it was back in the 50's and 60's. It has to be cause EFI wont run worth a shit on fuel a caburated vehicle would be fine with.
