Broke, had to learn...
Picked up a 1993 2.3 XL standard cab for a great price, did repairs and upgrades from this forum, and my daughter is happily putting the miles on it during the week, and it does farm duty on the weekend, doing a surprising amount of heavy work for 2wd short bed.
Summer is coming all to soon here in the deep south, and the cab gets toasty...got a good sliding rear window from the pull-a-part, but the factory floor mat was shredded.

What have you done to insulate the cab floor against engine/exhaust heat that worked?

The headliner is shot in this truck too, before I replace it, would an additional thermal barrier help there?

Thanks in advance for any advice or suggestions.

I've seen a few different materials used for this purpose and on my own truck (last Ranger) I used that silver insulation pipe wrap that is both water proof and heat resistant so ideal for under the carpet.

Problem with that is it doesn't actually absorb water so you need to check it periodically and remove it so you can dry the floor pans out to prevent rust. A bit of road salt in there and you could have a major rust problem in no time...

I also treated the floor pans with rubber guard (the kind you can paint) so it would protect against the accumulation of water and salt.

I used the stick-on insulation with a foil barrier from Home Depot. Really doesn't do much--we still get plenty of heat off the floor.

In my explorer I used a foil backed foam insulation(aprox $40) for wood flooring. You have to use a spray adhesive.
I have enough left over to do the roof when I change the headliner. Hoping to cut some of the summer heat this year..
Think I have about $60. Tired up in our so far. I will need more adhesive to do the roof.
So far it has worked good for me.
