My truck apparently has replacement shocks on it they're yellow with red or orange colored Bellows.
situation is none of them were tightened up they all have about a half inch of play at the top or bottom because none of the bolts were tight. They are all rusted solid
"Chase the threads" I'm told, So I need to pick up a Threading die, wondering which size to get?
And a nut splitter,

Are you just trying to get them off? If so, no reason to waste time trying to fix the threads. They aren't special bolts or anything, you can easily get new ones at any hardware store. Just break them off with cheater bar and a pipe or cut them off with a angle grinder and replace em with new.

To answer your original question though, you need to measure the diameter (for example 1\2" ) and then the threads per inch (for example 13). This gives you the thread size 1\2x13. But of course there is also metric to take into account which measure distances between the thread like M12x1.5. Best to use a thread pitch guage...

The bottom of the shocks are really not a problem it's the top where they have the stud that they never tightened and it's rusted solid, that's why I was trying to find out what the thread is, thank you

I think they are usually 10x1.25. That is not certain, and it is probably best to get a chaser set.

Also, once they are frozen like that cutting them is usually the only recourse for removal.

If you can get an angle grinder on the top nut, grind off one side of the nut.if you bugger the threads slightly no big deal.
