Convert open diff to limited slip

2007 2wd, 5spd std,3liter, 8.8 diff,410 gears, anyone know if an open diff can be converted to a limited slip and if the axles would have to be changed in the process.

Yes you can, and as long as Limited Slip came from Ranger 8.8" 28-spline you can use the same axles

Swap ring gear over to L/S unit so you don't have to swap pinion gear

But it might be easier to find a L/S 4.10 8.8" and swap the whole thing
1993 to 2009 would be plug n' play, for L/S part or whole axle
2010/11 would have disc brakes and larger axle tubes

Finding a complete 4.10 L/S axle at an auto dismantler will likely be much cheaper than having a shop install a L/S unit into your existing axle. This is due the precision at which the ring & pinion gears have to be aligned, and tolerance variations in the housings from unit to unit (usually requires re-shimming the carrier for proper gear contact pattern and bearing preload, which racks up the required shop time).

4.10 L/S 8.8s became common starting with 1998 model year Rangers.

Decided to change to an Eaton true rack and all the bearings, anyone have an opinion who to order from for the best price and service.Have to ship to Canada, price here just for the tru track is 850.00(ca), still have to get all the bearings after that, no drop ins to be found and an open diff (used) is 800.00.

If you're not making mistakes, you're not learning.
Can't help with the price, just make sure it's a 28 spline 8.8" carrier and not the 31 spline.

Sometimes you luck out, I put a E-locker in my 9.5?" GM 14 bolt and I didn't have to change anything. As long as your backlash stays the same as before you're good to go, and even then the carrier portion is pretty easy and straight forward to re-shim. Too much backlash, move it closer, too little, back it away from the pinion.

Setting things up completely from scratch though, is a slightly different can of worms.
