Lovely. I've never ridden an offroad bike but I'm thinking about getting one.

I was reading about motorcycle Grand Prix and they had a 125cc 2-stroke class (it's now a 250 4-stroke class) and those bikes run 155mph on a 125cc motor--7 cubic inches. 7 cubic inches and 40hp. A 5hp Briggs is 12 cubes. It's amazing how much power those little motors make.

Honestly, it was tough learning to ride this 250. All of my vehicles are diesel: a bus, a crewcab pickup, a 15-px van--even my Passat I shift at 2,000rpm. The fuel injected 250 in my bike runs well at low rpms so I just shift it like a truck and it seemed weak at first. Then I started experimenting with the revs and realized that if you drive it like you hate it, it makes lots of power. The diesels make short, heavy pushes between shifts. The bike likes long, screaming revs.

I can see now how an 80 or 125 would easy do the job in a bike. 155mph with 125ccs? Damn.

They are rather fun, took them out to some local dunes yesterday and had a lot of fun. Gotta love a 2 strokes power band.

The really crazy 2-strokes are the old 50cc GP bikes.

Peaky powerband? 14 speed tranny says no big deal!

Those Suzuki were making 17.5hp at 17,000rpm. Top speed of 110mph. Their replacement was to be a 3cyl 50cc, with 14sp transmission, and a useful powerband window of only 500rpm, up above 20,000rpm. Top speed of 120mph. But the sanctioning bodies limited 50's to single cyl, and 6sp transmissions, so Suzuki bailed out, and Kreidler Van Veen started dominating.

Curse this cold weather... at least put some snow on the ground if it's going to be cold! So ready to ride.

Missing my 500...

1995 Katana 600 @110(MPH) had to take it easy, never been on that road before (or since ) about a 40 degree lean angle, plenty more to go

1977 CB550F1 (probably in 1980?)

1965 Royal Enfield 250 Continetal GT (around 1980)

1978 XS650

1978 Rickman Honda CB750

1980 XR350

1975 Honda CB360 - before (2010)

1975 Honda CB360 - after (2011)

1975 CB360 - on the road

Yoshimura Kawasaki sidecar (shitload of fun)

That's enough for now
