I have a 1985 Bronco II 2.8 L 4x4. The engine has about 8000 miles. Transmission went out and it sat 6 months. Just put a new transmission in and it will start and idle just fine but when you press the accellerator the electronics module will not advance. The carb has been cleaned and fuel pressure is fine. Any ideas? Is there a throttle position sensor or something that may not be relaying information to the electronics module? Any help would be appreciated!

Have you tested the TFI ignition control module (or had it tested by a parts store)? I'd start there but I'm not so hot at this lol. Maybe someone else has a better idea.

The connector for setting the timing (can't remember what it's called) might have broken or become disconnected when the transmission was changed.

Spout connector.

The computer advances the timing but what tells the computer to advance it is the TPS. You press on gas pedal, it tells the computer that engine will be increasing in speed and to advance the timing (along with a few other things).

The computer controls the advancing/retarding of the timing and the carbs on these trucks. Just unplugging them will not fix the problem, it will create more.

If you wanna eleminate the computer system, duraspark it if your state doesn't do emissions testing.

^ +1. Alot of people do it here so there should be plenty of write ups if you want to try it.:icon_thumby:

The yellow (I think it's yellow anyway) single wire from the distributor is on the right (passenger) side of the engine back near the firewall. It has a black connector about 8 inches from the distributor which you unplug to set ignition timing. If that wire isn't broken or unplugged, do a Duraspark swap (look in the 2.8 section of the Tech Library) because getting that EECIV management system to work right is a royal pita.

i had to duraspark mine, was missing alot of stuff and mine wouldnt advance either. tfi hit the valve cover when i tried to advance it, didnt want to take out the tfi one and reset it in there so i d-sparkd it, and man was it worth the money. take your time and make sure your wiring is right. i got everything new from advance for about 120 bux, burnt up the coil so another 28 bux for a summit cannister coil. but i had it wired up wrong the first 2 times
