I have a 94 and a 96 Ranger both with 2.3's. The salvage yard has a 2.5 that I can overhaul and swap out quickly. Will the accessories bolt right on to this engine? Also will the ECU run this engine just as good as the 2.3? I need to get info on the 4 cyl engines as I never fooled with them much. I want to buy an extra motor then overhaul it and have a motor ready to swap out so I can get my trucks road ready very quickly. I used to install Mustang GT motors in Rangers and if anyone is interested the July 96 Sport Truck mag has an article on one of my trucks. My next Ranger project is gonna be freaking awesome just not getting started on it till next summer. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated. If anyone would like to discuss it leave your number in the reply and a time to call and we can discuss it. Thanks.

I have a 98 2.5 running on 96 2.3 setup. Everything pretty much bolts on since the only real difference is the stroke. There are some minor things like the 2.5 connector for the temp sensor...but that's really about it. They even have the same battery and computer wiring...

I wouldn't know if they run the engine as well as what the 98 does because they changed fuel pressure after 97...went from 35-45 up to 65 psi...what difference that would have and whether the newer engines run a different fuel injection is another story...but if you want to keep the 96 wiring and computer then it will work with the 2.5.
