New to forums here. Maybe you guys could help me with a quick question.

I am swapping a 4.0 into an 86 B2 (cracked 2.9 head) i went to swap the true dual from the 2.9L to the 4.0 and in the process i cracked the 2.9's exhaust manifold. I HAVE currently 2 - 26" straight though cherry bomb mufflers that were side by side. It was louder than heck, too loud actually. I could be heard almost a mile away under normal load. No cat either. oh and the flange seal leaked.

Im piss poor right now so buying flowmaster or dynomax is out of the question.

i can "adapt" the 4.0 H cat flange to take the cherry bombs, should i mount the 2 inline? or leave just 1? would the 2 dampen the sound a little more? or just cause more reverb? they are both 2.5" id.

would love to know before i put the engine in and have to weld above my face... :icon_welder:

i don't see why not.. i believe the blocks are the same on the outside. don't quote me on that. but you should be able to do it. And honestly, with the exhaust i had the 2.9 was twice as loud as the 4.0. The flowmaster single exhaust 2.9 was almost as loud as the 4.0 straight pipe

Well i got the 4.0 from pull a part and they are required by law to take the cats off... they butchered the heck out of the connector but i was able to get a 3" i.d to 2.5" i.d pipe and "squish" it to fit perfectly over the remaining y-pipe outlet. I live in NC so cats aren't "required" here really. Just have to have something that "looks" like a cat in older vehicles. Or know a guy ;) If they sound like poo after i get everything running ill check out that thrust muffler. Gotta save a little money though... probably gonna blow up my fm145 shortly after the swap though...
