I recently bought a 2000 ford ranger 302. The 302 was out of a 71 Torino I don't know the miles, had a freshly rebuilt explorer trans with under 100 miles on it. I bought it sight unseen for a heck of a deal. I had it towed to my shop I fired it up for the first time and it idled at 4,000 rpm constant. I then started to fix the mistakes from the kid i bought it from. Ended up
-tuning the carb and fixing the spring on the throttle body
- noticed it had a new distributer that wasn't tightened down and off a tooth so I adjusted that.
- put a new serp belt on
Fired it up and purred like a kitten
Note this project I bought is about 80% complete It needs a front drive shaft for awd. Reserve lights need to be hooked up. he put the wrong Alternator wires on so the battery is not charging have to hunt one down. Overall i didn't spend much on this truck and its runs strong kinda puzzled why he even got rid of it. I still have plans for bucket seats, long travel kit, new fox suspension.
