This is why you should research the vehicle you're wanting to buy.

I found this ad on the Dallas Texas Craigslist for a 2001 Ford Ranger Edge 4x4 Edge.

https://dallas.craigslist.org/ndf/cto/d/2001-ford-ranger/6426529850.html

According to the ad:

* 2001 Ford Ranger Edge Supercab
* 199,000 miles
* Clean carfax with zero accidents
* Super clean inside and out
* Edge edition along with the FX4 4WD
* Brand new Yokohama Geolandar A/T tires
* 4.0L V6
* Ice cold A/C
* Cloth interior
* Power windows/locks
* Rubber floor
* Bed liner
* Vehicle is listed for $6,000
* We also finance with a MINIMUM of $1,500 down.
* If interested please call or text mw @ 940-703-2886.

The FX4 wasn't available until 2002.

It didn't have the silver 4x4 sticker on the tailgate.

It didn't come with that light interior.

You couldn't get an 'Edge' with a FX4 package

6g's? I must be selling cars in the wrong part of the country. Almost 20 years old with 200k and 6 GRAND. That's too funny.

If I had seen the edge decal and the fx4 that would have raised flags for me.

There is a 2005 FX4 Level II for sale up here for $11,500! It is a very nice truck, but damn. Ironically it is even about $500 under book at that price...

Checked out the prices of the FX4 Level 2's awhile ago and prices are way up there. I picked up a 03 for $5500 knowing I'd have to replace the manual trans but has the manual transfer case and 143K miles on it.

There was a kid a few years behind me in school that had FX4 decals on his '97 F-150 because he thought they looked cool.

My credo
the grey-t escape
i think used vehicle prices have really gone up, used to for 500 you could get a reasonably good vehicle to use as a daily driver, now its hard to find anything for under 1000 that isnt junk. i know i paid too much for my 94 i drive now, i was in a bind and it was the best i could find for under a grand (the 2nd best being a 1/2 ton dodge extented cab 4wd with no tires, on blocks, 318 auto-for 900) i gave 700 for my current ranger, the guy i got it from wanted 800, and after a through go-over i determined it was at best a 400$ truck. have done alot to it and at the moment its undergoing a head replacement, and im putting a few other new parts under the hood.
