I have a 2004 Edge 2wd, and I was thinking about looking for a wrecked FX4 Level II to possibly swap the 4x4 system into mine. I would have gotten the FX4 when I bought mine if there had been one available at a reasonable price but they're all pretty expensive on craigslist (most are at least twice what I paid for mine). I'm pretty sure if there was an FX4-II on dashub or in a junkyard I could get it for less than half of what I paid for mine, and just convert it all onto my truck. I know it wouldn't be a "real" FX4-II but I would have all the same capability, which is what I'm after. I know it would be a lot of work, as I would have to add the front axle, swap the rear, add the driveshafts on both ends, the 4 wheel drive center differential, and so on, my question is, is the 4x4 system integrated into the TCM for an automatic or is it separate? If its going to be a wiring nightmare to get it to work with the automatic transmission I have or if I would have to find an auto FX4-II to pull the transmission and TCM out of I would like to know up front lol. might be worth it to just do a manual swap if I'm going to have to pull the tranny anyway.
