I've grown weary of this dumb gauge...
Does it look low? Where does everyone else's sit at?

In a 99 5.0 Sploder, only aftermarket accessory is Rockford Fosgate 800w amp. RPM was 2k, cruise on @ 65ish mph.

Ford gauges are not meant for accuracy just as a warning, one step above, change that to, one step sideways from an idiot light :) cause its not above.

Best thing to check is the voltage at the battery with a meter as it compares to the gauge.
Engine off key on battery voltage above 12.5v = healthy battery, 12.4v and below means start shopping for a battery sale, look at gauge to get an idea of where 12.x is on the gauge.

Start engine, battery voltage should be 13.6v or better, alternator is working, check gauge to see where 13.x is,

Raise RPMs to 2,000, voltage should go up to above 14v then drop back down, alternator regulator is working.

Turn on all the lights, fans, cigarette lighter and anything else you can think of, battery voltage should drop below 13.6v then come back up to 13.6+volts, all 3 fields of the alternator are working, check gauge for it's level at full draw.

Yes gauge could be bad but no reason not to test it.

My '94 4.0l gauge runs just above 1/2, drops when I use the power windows, but pops back up again.
