i just did mine, left the stock dash in it, but if i had the extra patience, id swap out the whole dash, that would be cool.

I've read more than once swapping of the dash makes everything damn near plug & play (especially if you have the parts Explorer on hand to swap parts from). I would suspect only some little things like rewiring of the light connectors if you keep the 1st-gen clip on the BII would be all that's needed (and hooking to the BII taillight harness). Also, you'd need a '89-'90 BII fuel tank, pump & lines.

If I'm missing anything in this, pretty sure it's something rather minor.

Maybe they are the same... (I admit I didn't check) I figured with the pumps being a completely different setup, the tank would be different too. If the '89-'90 high-pressure EFI pump fits in the tank, then I guess you're good to go.

A sending unit from a 94 explorer dropped right in my 88 tank. I think you only have to change the tank on a 84.

Hopefully your swapping the tranny too. I didn't and now I am making spacers so i can bolt up the two bottom bellhousing bolts. The two bottom bolt holes on the pan/ yes the pan... will not mach your bottom bellhousing holes. The driverside bottom hole needs to be drilled out and the passenger side one isn't even close. I am doing the swap as we speak, that is my first road block.

If you could start with a 89 or 90, it would cut out a lot of work.

Ur not lookin in the right places. I'm picking up an 89 today for 150. Its just a parts truck for me, I need the front sheetmetal. Plus a few odds and ends. I guess it depends on ur location. I see them all the time under 500 on craigslist.
