So I might do the 302 swap in my ranger
It's a 1993 ranger 8.8 rear 42in tires hp dana 35
4.0 ohv with the 5speed trans. Elec. Shift tc.
02 ranger driveshaft

It's hard to find anyone who swapped a 302 in a 93-94
I'm not sure if there any different than the 97 and older.
I see alot of people doing the explorer swap but I've heard
The truck swap is the way to go with my year ranger.
I dont care if the check engine light is on so I f it runs good
Then im happy but it is my dd so I need it done within a week
Or two thats my biggest problem. If your gonna tell me it can't be
Done then move along because I don't have time for negativity.
This MUST be a efi swap. I want an automatic trans w a floor
Shifter because it's a mud truck and you cant shift them.

Ive done some research and found I need
Motor, trans, tc, motor & trans harness
96f150 power steering lines
the oil filter relocater,
2in square tubing for the front drive shaft to clear
Explorer front drive shaft
Modified coolant hoses
Relocate that weird box on the drivers side
Dual sump oil pan
Modified motor mounts & trans mounts
Radiator w/ electric fans
New trans coolant lines

So now I have some questions
What should I be getting my motor from
What headers are a direct fit
Is there an oil pan thats a direct fit
What are the best swap in motor mounts
Do I need a tuner
Do I need a body lift
Do I need a elbow for the intake
Can a use a bw manual shift 1356 tc. (F150)
Easiest radiator to use?
Is trans mount a direct fit (width wise)

My biggest concern is electrical. Ive read alot of swaps and I dont
See anyone do wiring but everyone sais you have to modify the
Harness. Is there like 4 wires I modify or 30?!

Thanks guys :)

what are the intentions of this behemoth?

i would not run a v8 with 42 in tires and a d35 and 8.8.

thats not even remotely reasonable.

your list i would not agree with either....why do you need a 150 powersteering line? as in need.

i would read alot more. it will eliminate most of the questions.

without knowing the intentions its tough to see those axles being useful with actual horse power.

oh, this is easily done, just need to know if its a trailer rig or if you drive it around on the street often as well.

Its daily driven...the axels will hold up perfectly fine I'm not
Concerned about them at all. The 8.8 is completely built w 489
Gears and I'm swapping the hp soon anyway.

I have read through 70+ pages and everyone is running 96+
Rangers and dont give the full story for the build they give bits
And pieces and leave huge details im simply asking is my 93
4.0 the same exact thing.. if you could point me in the direction
Of a 93 5.0 swap that would just put the biggest smile on
My face :)

'89-'93 Mustang EFI and the wiring manual from Harwood Performance will cover that aspect.

42 inches tires on a d35 and 8.8....both will be scrap metal in no time. 35 inch tires are the basic limit of the d35. The 8.8, if it's the original ranger one, is only 28 spline and a c-clip axle that will let go in no time.

I will say, go bigger on the engine if making a mud rig with those size tires.

5.0 0nly.
Again, the axel is BUILT not a stock ranger axle.
I ran a stock 8.8 behind a 302 for years and BEAT it
On 42s and never had one problem. I do not need
Advice on my axels they hold up perfectly fine and
I have no intentions of running bigger axels right now.
Thanks Teddyzee for the info!

Oh look, another small ranger on the forums, lol. First, welcome. Except for the wiring and heater box mod, my SVT build thread, first post will be basically what your doing. With the addition of the engine wiring and diagnostic port, you will also need to wire in an overdrive switch as the 93-94 didn't have one...

Bobby, the F150 ps line is said to be a bolt in swap for the ex 5.0 engines having the correct fittings and correct length to connect the ex pump to the ranger gearbox...

Thanks RangerSVT! Actually I got the f-150 ps line idea
From your thread which definitely helped alot! I've read your
Build over and over but I never saw the wiring. So the you
Only need 5 wires to get this swap going (minus the od switch)
I don't need the oil or temp gauge for atleast a week.

My plan is to get the truck on the road with the least amount
Of work possible then upgrade parts.

So if I understand this right the 93-94 wiring is different which
Is why nobody does it but im curious to what about the swap
Makes it difficult?

The F150 line I personally have not verified, buy I heard it from a reliable source. The 93-94 can be swapped, and has been done, but not enough to be documented by anyone. The wiring differs slightly but is similar to a 91-92 ranger wiring, but is compleyely different to the OBD2 95+ rangers. The 93-94 has the same heater box as the earlier rangers, and similar engine bay dimensions...

Alright so should I go off a 91-92 ranger or would it be possible
For me to swap all my wiring over to like a 96?

The 93-94 is a little different from the 91-92. You need to get the electrical schematics from your year. Converting to 95+ is possible, but you will need the complete vehicle harness, dash, HVAC box & interior harness, engine bay heater box, washer bottle, basically EVERYTHING from the donor vehicle, firewall mods will need to be made as well. It would be easier to just swap cabs to be honest...

If your saying swaping cabs would be easiest I'll do it
But if its as simple as commect this wire with that wire
I can do that. When it comes to electrical you have to talk
Slow to me lol. The wires your talking about
(1 constant, 2 ground, 2ignition) where do they end up?
As in basics of where do they start and where do they need
To be at the end in order to run.

From the 42 pin plug located on top of the 5.0 ex motor to the plugs on your truck's inner fender on the driver side is where your connections/splices would be....
