I just picked up a 93 splash and the back brakes don't work at all. I've done some research here and on other forums and it all seems to point to the rabs system. I plan on bypassing it all together, because non abs back brakes seems safer than no back brakes. (the front brakes are over worked in even normal non- emergency situations, you can smell the brakes overheating even slowing to 35 from 45 mph.)

The point of my post is to get advice in how to go about this. What types of fittings will I need? What diameter brake line should I get? How can I ensure that the back brakes don't lock up every time I touch the pedal? Any help would be very appreciated.

last year my rear brake line rotted out next to the gas tank, its a common thing to have happen. i dont remember what size i used but i do remember i converted to a different thread. and i did not use the stupid pipe bender thing. just go slow and easy.

i also bypassed the rabs with no problems. but i found that i also had to replace my bleeder valves(front and rear) , my whole brake assemblys was rusted... brake fluid collects water over time, and the previous owner had a bottle under the hood he just kept filling it with.

the line you want is 3/16 inch, also i chose to do several sections of brake line, so that if it ever rusts again i can just buy that piece to replace it. i believe my supercab was like 12 foot of line. and im pretty sure i did it in 3 different pieces

i went to oreillys to convert my line from bubble flare to invert or whatever its called they couldnt do it. autozone had the adapter that i needed.

when i did mine i had to take the bleeders all the way out on the back and mash the crap out of the peddle to get the rust to break free. i would try this.

Thanks for the help man. Looks like I'm gonna be on my back in the driveway. Do I need a proportioning valve,or can I just run a line to both drums?

i just ran it from the master cylinder down where the rabs thing is and past that along the frame like it used to go, then above the rear axle it will split and go to each drum.

My credo
Make it fast, Make it loud.
could this be why my '91s rears dont work at all? what is rabs? rear anti lock system? is there a way to test such a thing?

i assume there is a way to test it. i would first make sure you have brake fluid coming out of the rear end. then replace everything thats not working internally.
