1985 BII with a 2.8 and five speed. Was grinding a little bit when I bought so I put in new battery and starter worked fine for about four months. Then all of the sudden starter sounded like it quit engaging replaced starter again but still has same problem if I turn the flywheel it grinds hard once but then just spins after that. Checked flywheel all the way around no teeth missing or bad spots cannot figure out what is going on need some help.:icon_confused:

You may need to shim the starter. I was having the same issues but found that the starter bolts were incorrect and wouldn't stay tight so I purchased new starter bolts and installed, torqued them down and haven't had a problem with the starter not engaging in about 2 months now.

Cool, glad you got it fixed. I've been driving mine around for about a month and a half since replacing the starter bolts, haven't had a starting issue since. The right bolts make a huge difference.
