My rear drive shaft broke at the CV joint going into the rear diff. I replaced the whole assembly with a used drive shaft out of a 1986 Bronco 2.

Went for a test drive after replacing the drive shaft and there is a clicking noise now when driving at low speeds, when I accelerate the noise goes away.

The only difference I saw from the broken one tot he one I got at a salvage yard is the "new" one has weights on both flanges.

Dunno if that is my issue or if its one of the CV joints!

Help please!!!!!!!

I had the same thing going on with my 86's, twice I have owned two lol. Both had CV style driveshaft's and both made grinding popping noises during take off and accel even in reverse some times, the fist time it broke quick, just spins and grinds but doesn't go anywhere, second time(with my current bronco) it took like 2 and a half months before it finally went and I thought it was my rear end, till it finally locked up in an intersection kept stalling the truck out till i rev'd it up and dropped it into gear it snapped that locked up CV joint like a twig but sounded like a gunshot lol. Moral of the story if you got a CV rear, get a u-joint or double u-joint style driveshaft, broke or not right now its going to be one day those CV's are time bombs.

I just read this the other day something to consider looking into.

You want to get a first generation Explorer front driveshaft.
Remove the factory double cardon joint from that shaft and get some new u-joint flanges or remove 2 slip yoke portions from the rear d-shaft of the Explorer to obtain flanges.
Do a "Search" for Explorer driveshaft modification.

It only took me 2 days to go from nice and quiet to grinding on my CV shaft after I bought my BII. The deer helped...
You can also get gkn conversion shafts. I got mine from O'Reilly's.

I did this mod when I first got my 86. super easy and now greaseable zerks. had one guy pisss on this mod cause with the cardon joint you can lift the b2 with a stock drive shaft but not with the mod. you need to replace the drive shaft. but with the 3"body lift and 31" big foots I'm fine on the height right now.
