Driveshaft Help

I broke my rear driveshaft over the weekend(not doing anything fun just going through town) and my question is what has to be done to convert my b2 away from the stupid cv style driveline to the normal u-joint type like normal. Any help would be great

I don't know but mine is a 1989 and It doesn't have a c/v joint just a straight shaft looks pretty new so they replaced sometime before I got it

I took mine down to a drive shaft shop (Blumenthal's, Okla. City) and they measured it, and built me a new one with u-joints, in 2 days. $80.

My rear shaft is broken and I can't seem to find replacement parts...do I need a whole shaft?

take the front drive shaft from a first gen explorer and remove the double u-joint end keeping the slip end too. Then take the front flange from the rear explorer shaft (T case end) you will need 2 of these. The explorer front shaft is the perfect length with a single u-joint on each end to fit in the back of our BII's. I did it on mine and i got everything from the JY for less than $40, minus the u-joints. If your JY is anything like the one i have by my house you'll have to but the complete shaft which is good because no i already have the 8.8 flange for when i go that route.

I just replaced the driveshaft on my 88 BII.

Followed these instructions and did the whole job, including new U-joints for under $30.

Hmmm...the only yard around here that had driveshaft said he wanted 100 bucks for it.... :sad:

Guess I gotta take Trip tp LKQ Self Serve, but even they want at least 35 bucks a pop .. Where are these 10 dollar driveshafts?? :icon_confused:

That looks like the way to go though.. Or maybe not, I have an 87' with the fm145 trans..the more I read the more confused I get lol

Reportedly, the A4LD, FM146 and M5ODtransmissions, manual and automatic, 1987 or 1988 and up were made the same length.
The FM145 is a few inches shorter.

This upgrade will fit your 87 BII F145 trans but you may NOT have to cut off the cardon joint, just swap the rear flange and the front yoke.

The compressed length on the 'modified' (cardon cut off) shaft is 31 1/4 inches. If your shaft has a longer compressed length, the cardon joint adds about 2 inches.

Before you do any cutting, measure you existing shaft to make sure.
